Reiki
is an ancient healing art known as the Universal Life Force
Energy. When the flow of energy within us is disrupted, our
health and well-being are compromised. Reiki restores this natural
flow of energy. It is not religiously affiliated, and can do
no harm.
Reiki
does not require any form of manipulation of the tissue or
muscle. The person receiving Reiki remains fully clothed while
lying comfortably on a massage table. Soft music may be played
in the background during the session. With respect for the
individual’s body privacy, the practitioner’s
hands are placed on or above the body in their energy field.
These fields are comprised of Meridians, the vessels through
which energy travels. There are seven major energy centers,
called Chakras, running down the front and back of the body,
each corresponding to certain body parts and organs. The practitioner’s
hands will remain still for a few minutes, then be repositioned.
During the session, one may experience sensations such as
warmth or tingling from the flow of Reiki energy. It can also
be an emotional release for some. A typical treatment lasts
one hour.
Reiki
promotes natural relaxation, stress relief and a tremendous
sense of well-being. Research studies have shown that it accelerates
the healing process, lowers blood pressure, and can be an
effective part of pain management. Reiki is a very beneficial
compliment to traditional medicine, but is not intended as
a substitute for medical or psychological diagnosis or treatment.
More and more hospitals are using Reiki as an addition to
their practices. |
